There are three ways of touring Karori Cemetery
VEHICLE TOURS
You provide transport for your group and I ride along to provide a commentary and point out all the main historic and heritage features of the cemetery. Stopping at a series of vantage points we take an easy stroll around each area. Vehicle tours facilitate viewing the whole expanse of the cemetery, and are especially suitable for those with mobility issues, or when weather conditions are marginal. Vehicle tours start at the car park opposite the Main Chapel, Rosehaugh Avenue.
WALKING TOURS
Walking tours include all the main historic and heritage features of the cemetery and can easily take three hours, walking at a steady pace but with time to stop and view the sights and features. Because the cemetery is so big, walking tours are limited to certain areas.and include steps and paths up and down steep hillsides so full mobility is required. Good walking shoes are essential.
There is no shelter from weather conditions, so rainwear or sun protection is recommended, depending on the conditions on the day.
Walking tours are not suitable for children under 5, unless they are in a buggy throughout, or being carried in a back or front pack. There is no charge for children under 5 in these circumstances.
Walking tours start at the Main Chapel, Rosehaugh Avenue (carparking available)
Good dogs, on leads, welcome.
THEMED TOURS
Themed tours are shorter, focused walking tours, taking a maximum of 1.5 hours. They traverse defined, central areas of the cemetery. The routes are mostly off-road so good walking shoes are essential. Walking conditions are generally easy but will be soggy underfoot after rain.
Themed tours start at the Main Chapel, Rosehaugh Avenue (carparking available)
The meeting place may change at short notice if there is a service in the Chapel - an alternative location will be advised to those who have booked.
Goods dogs, on leads, welcome.
N.B. Interments continue within Karori Cemetery and touring routes will vary to ensure the privacy of such events.
